"Free Credit Card Machines!"
“Free Terminals!”These glitzy phrases are sure to catch most shopper’s eyes.

“Nothing is Free”An old saying that is used by competitors to counter the Free Terminal promises. It is also a lesson learned by most during life’s experiences.

What is the Truth?
The Free Credit Card Machine craze seen throughout the credit card processing world is something that merchants need to be leery of. Different companies position themselves in the market in varying ways, but the old adage that Nothing is Free is correct. The Free word really means No Upfront Costs.

What companies tend to do is provide a merchant with a merchant terminal at no upfront cost, but then:

charge a high annual fee
a monthly minimum fee
unfair termination fees
and in the fine print you will usually find the true kicker, a statement that says something along the lines of “the merchant must return the terminal in the same condition as it was received” once they cancel the account. If the machine is not in the same condition as when originally provided, the merchant is then automatically ACH’d from their checking account an amount usually in the range of $595.00 to $795.00.

With all those fees and the fact that it is almost impossible to return something in like new condition after it's been used in a business for awhile, hopefully you can see that the truth about free credit card machines is that

Nothing is Free.
